The Duke Of Edinburghs Award

The following three programs offered by Awards Victoria sit neatly with scouting activities:

  • The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award – for 14-25 year olds
  • The Compass Award – a lead in program to The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for 10-14 year olds
  • The Bridge Award – for 14-25 year olds with a disability who are unable to cope with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

The Compass and Bridge Awards are based on The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.  More detail on all programs can be found on the website: www.awardsvic.org.au

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is an internationally recognised program in 130 countries that aims to engage and empower young people and help them to explore and develop their potential

With assistance from adult leaders, participants select and set objectives in each of the following areas:

  • Volunteering: undertaking service to individuals or the community.
  • Physical: improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities.
  • Skills: developing practical and social skills and personal interests.
  • Adventurous Journey: planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey, which can be an expedition, exploration, or at Gold level an ‘Other Adventurous Project’
  • At Gold level, participants must do an additional fifth Residential section, which involves staying and working away from home doing a shared activity.

These activities may use activities that you are doing through Scouts/Venturers or Rovers.  What you are doing may need to be varied to ensure it meets your Award requirements.

Each section must be done for a minimum period of time. It must be monitored and then assessed by someone with knowledge of that particular activity to achieve an Award. Each progressive level demands more time and commitment from participants.
