On the long weekend in March, 232 Scouts from across our region came together for a great weekend of fun and adventure at Mafeking Rover Park. The weather was kind to us with brilliant sunny days and not too cold at night. Over the weekend the Scouts abseiled, canoed, raced billy karts through the Rovers Mudbash obstacle course and took part in capture the flag games with Laser tag. They also zinged down an 80M flying fox, rolled around in Zorb Balls and slid down water slides. These are just some of the highlights of the weekend.
The activities for the Camp were arranged into 4 activity bases, each one put together by one of our five districts. Each base had a general theme to it. Banyule District put together the Fast and Furious base. Hume District ran the Pumped base. Moreland Darebin District ran the Adrenalin base and Nillumbik Whittlesea ran the Wet and Wild base. At least one of the activities at every base required the patrols to work together as a team to achieve an outcome, be it helping the whole patrol over the last water obstacle at Wet and Wild to remotely lifting those crates up with long poles onto the stack at crate stacking before they fall.
Night entertainment included a movie one night and Karaoke on the other night, (for those that were game enough to stand up and have a go, which many did).
Tilba Tilba District also worked tirelessly behind the scenes laying out the camp sites, manning the First Aid post during activities and making sure the amenities were all in order through out the weekend.
Our Patrol leaders did a great job making sure their Patrols were at activities on time and generally looking after their Patrols throughout the weekend, while their leaders were helping running the activities and performing other duties.
Some photos of the weekend have already been published; the video is currently being edited and will be published on our region website shortly. http://www.vicscouts.com.au/plenty-valley-region.html
A big thankyou, to all the leaders, parent helpers and specialised activity teams, who came together to deliver a great weekend for our scouts. Thanks also to the Rovers of Mafeking Rover Park for the preparation of the park and who were on hand over the weekend to ensure everything was functioning as it should.
