Unfortunately Kathy McCartney (Joey Scout Leader 8th Knox) has had to move on from the Scouts in Schools (Knox) role, due to work commitments. Fortunately, we have been able to quickly find a replacement.
And so it is with great pleasure that we announce that Nicole Klep (Distirct Leader - Cub Scouts) has now been appointed as the Coordinator for the school incursions program in the City of Knox District for the rest of 2012, and into early 2013.
The Coordinator position is a paid part-time role for 2012, with the funding coming from Knox Council's Community Development Fund (CDF) grant application last October.
About the school incursion events
The School Incursion activities we have been running in City of Knox District for about 10 years are basically a one hour program held once in a school during school hours. The one hour visit is intended for 20 children (or multiples of 20) and is a realistic participative demonstration of a typical Joey Scout or Cub Scout weekly meeting. This includes a game, activity, sing-song, and whatever else the regular program might include.
Each school visit typically caters for about 60 to 80 students. To achieve this we either run several groups of 20 concurrently (if we have enough Leaders), or we run several sessions one after the other.
We are very keen to have Joey and Cub Leaders from nearby Scout Districts participate in the program this year to extend the experience into other Districts. District Commissioners, Joey Scout Leaders and Cub Scout Leaders should all feel free to contact the undersigned to discuss.
There are some more details about the program in the latest City of Knox District FLASH occasional newsletter (in the MyScout resources for City of Knox District).
