Bill and Sue Henley were presented with a joint Community Achievement Award by the Mayor of Whitehorse at a ceremony on Australia Day.

Bill Henley, currently District Commissioner Whitehorse, joined 1st Bennettswood Scout Group as an 8-year-old Cub in 1962 and moved through all the sections, gaining Queen’s Scout and Baden Powell Awards.  He went on to become a Leader in every section as well as Group Leader and has served at District, Region and Branch levels.  He holds the awards of Medal of Merit and Silver Koala.

Sue joined 1st Bennettswood as a Rover and Cub Leader in 1973, assuming her current role of Group Leader in 1994.  The strength of the Group has increased under her leadership and her awards include Medal of Merit, Silver Koala and Silver Emu.  She is a long-standing member of the Training Team.

Sue and Bill have mentored many Leaders and promoted international contacts when hosting Japanese Scouting delegates from Box Hill’s city Matsudo.  Their enthusiasm for Scouting has been passed on to their two children, Andrew and Sarah, both Section Leaders and Award recipients.

Bill and Sue are leaders in the true sense of the word, inspiring everyone around them to be involved in community and to benefit from the experience.
