Two Leaders from 1st Epping (Victoria) were Nominated and Received Awards from The City of Whittlesea Australia Day Celebrations Committee Inc. at a breakfast held on Wednesday 25th January 2012.  Two Scouts Robin Fosbender and Michael Rhodes were also involved in the ceremony and broke the flag at commencement of proceedings.

Mr Philip Waddell (Kanga) has been a Scout Leader for 28 years and received the Ted Gason Memorial President’s Award for Meritorious Service.  Assistant Scout Leader Marion Rhead (Platypus) has been a Leader for 26 years and received the Nick Ascenzo Award for Community Service.  Craig Ondarchie MP and Region Commissioner Peter Rutley were among distinguished guests.  It was great to see our Scout Leaders receiving recognition from the Community for the fantastic effort they have put in over the all those years, sacrificing their time and resources often during times of ill health, all for enjoyment they get out of helping develop our youth through Scouting.  Both were incredibly humbled and said it was nice to be recognised for something that they really enjoy doing.
